Tone Rider

Original Pitch

Guide a rider with the sound of your voice! The pitch will create a line that the rider runs forward on. Stop making noise and the rider could fall to his doom! Claps will make the rider jump, useful if you want to breathe :-)

I might need some help with this one, as this is unknown territory for me. But that's what makes it fun!

Finding pitch is hard!

Finding the pitch of a voice is hard! Not impossible, but I wasn't up for learning about Nyquist frequencies and Cocos2d all in one night. As a result, The line is controlled with low pass filtered peak results from the microphone. This is commonly used to detect blowing into the microphone.

The game design changed, because this input mode is much more imprecise. Now its more of a toy, but its fun! After all, fun is all that matters, even if it is trivial.

The gloss

I grabbed some sprites from the planet cute art assets: [[1]]

The rider responds to gravity and some simple 1d physics.

I added stars that pass by and a nighttime background. The stars use particle emitters and rotate to give them a little more magic.

Final Product

It's a simple toy, but its fun! Find me in the green shirt and khakis (Wednesday, 360iDev) to demo it on my iPhone. I started around 7:30pm, and worked until 6am. Not shabby for my first game product :-)
